An age that has given up on grand narratives has given up even on coherent narratives. There should be a beginning, a middle and an end for me, and one for you; but if they differ in fundamentals, then how are they to be reconciled? We have become content with a world that does not make sense, and we brandish the confession of our incomprehension as though it were philosophically worthy. Fundamental ontology eclipsed an epistemological endeavor scientific in its aspiration to map the world in order that it might be comprehended. The attempt to set limits to what could be known, in order that we could point, and say, “here we cannot know” – has had the blowback effect of our being completely engulfed in ignorance, able but to light a spark, and illuminate our own immediate surroundings, lost whether under the dome of a cave or with the night sky over our heads, we do not know.
