In Anglophone countries, philosophy is understood to mean making arguments by giving reasons in support of a conclusion. Continental philosophy, by contrast, is interested in your motivation for arguing on behalf of this, rather than that, or anything at all. That is why it is stereotyped as sexy: because it has to do with what you are attracted to.
