What I would say to those who speak of changing the canon to diversify the origins of those authors who are a part of it is that canon is an English word, English being the language of the English people, and the sense in which we use it here is derived from its use by the Church to denote its selection of accepted texts for inclusion in the Bible. There are certain things that cannot be expunged from the canon, and it is useless to try, and worse, to fail to educate on the origins of our own civilization, which must make mention of them as foundational.
