On Jewish Atheism

Extraordinary suffering is held to invalidate the possibility of God. But it is when we suffer most that He is most present in our reliance on Him. Even if, angry, we defy Him and curse Him for His pretense to mete out justice in the midst of our unjust fate, we root our survivorship into the future in our rejection of Him. He is present in our denial, even as He is present to the believer.
